News → Business As Usual In EuropeAfter enjoying a midweek break of unpredictability in the Champions League – or unpredictable referees to be precise, or maybe predictable referees to be conspiratory – Europe’s top leagues eventually returned to their usual weekly trot. In England, the vacant fourth Champions League spot keeps being the more interesting race than the one for the title. Liverpool generously put their Champions League ticket up for grabs but neither Tottenham, Aston Villa or Man City could yet make their mind up whether they really want it. This weekend it was up to Man City to stake their claim as they hosted Liverpool and battled to a 0-0 draw. Check out the full highlights above. Elsewhere, Portsmouth continue being 48h away from going into administration and 24h away from having yet another new owner. News → Togo Fights Back; Appeals CAF BanAs we discussed a few weeks ago, the CAF decided to punish the Togolese National Football team by banning them from the next two African Cup tournaments due to their governments interference in team affairs. What interference you may ask? How about their Prime Minister summoning the team home after having their bus machine gunned down by Angolan terrorists, effectively forcing the nations forfeiture from this years African Cup tournament? Yes. That was their crime. Thankfully, Togo isn’t taking the situation lying down. According to wire reports, the Togolese government have filed an appeal with the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) to repeal this sentence. With the support of the majority of the international community, they are hoping to lift this ban and the imposed $50,000 dollar fine that came with it. |
