<description><![CDATA[Chile defender Roberto Cereceda has tested positive for cocaine and faces a two-year suspension, his club Colo Colo said on Friday.<br /><br />The positive results of both A and B samples came from a test after a match against Bolivia’s Universidad de Sucre last month in the Copa Sudamericana, South America’s equivalent of the Europa League.<br /><br />“Colo Colo received a letter from the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) officially confirming the positive resulting the anti-doping test carried out on player Roberto Cereceda on Aug. 17,” the Chilean club said on their website (www.colocolo.cl).<br />]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[A linesman in Turkey has been injured after being hit in the head when fans threw objects onto the field, forcing the league match to be abandoned.<br />The incident occurred Monday after Bursaspor scored against home team Gaziantepspor in the 56th minute to lead 1-0.<br />It was not immediately clear what hit the linesman, but Hurriyet newspaper said on its website that he was injured.<br />The Turkish Football Federation says it is investigating the incident.<br />Bursapor is the Turkish defending champion and is leading the standings this season.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[The lawyer of a Brazilian goalkeeper charged with ordering the killing of his former lover says the footballer attempted suicide in jail.<br /><br />Lawyer Ercio Quaresma tells local media that former Flamengo goalkeeper Bruno tried to kill himself two times as he awaits trial on charges he ordered the killing of an ex-lover who allegedly was trying to prove he was the father of her young son.<br /><br />Court officials said Bruno’s childhood friend and cellmate, Luiz Henrique Romao, who has been charged with allegedly helping the goalkeeper, also told a judge on Friday that Bruno attempted suicide.<br /><br />The Rio de Janeiro state public safety department issued a statement late Friday denying that Bruno attempted suicide while in custody.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[UEFA promised Bayern Munich on Thursday it will investigate claims that its anti-corruption investigators falsely alleged the German champion was suspected of match-fixing.<br /><br />In a concession to Bayern, UEFA said it “understands the reasons” why the club asked Munich prosecutors to open a criminal case for defamation against two named officials whom it also asked UEFA to fire.<br /><br />“Bayern Munich has been informed that, in order to clarify the case, UEFA has already opened an internal investigation on the whole matter,” the European football authority said in a statement.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[A group of football fans in Athens damaged the field at their own stadium in order to keep a rival Greek team from playing a Europa League match at the venue.<br /><br />Greek police say about 30 Panionios fans caused extensive damage to their own ground late Tuesday. The stadium had been chosen to host AEK Athens’ match against Scottish club Dundee United on Thursday because of bad turf conditions at AEK’s home stadium.<br /><br />The vandals knocked down the goal posts, dug holes in the turf, burned a team bench and sprayed abusive slogans against AEK and UEFA.<br /><br />An AEK spokeswoman says the club has suggested the second-leg match should be played at Olympiakos’ stadium, and UEFA is considering the proposal.<br /><br />AEK won the first leg 1-0.]]></description>
